The diamond belongs to the group of precious stones and has received this name for its hardness and the name of the Greek "adamas" which means invincible and suggests the triumph and perpetuity of love. There is no comparable hardness; for that reason it is truly imperishable. The hardness of the diamond is different in the different faces of the crystal. In this resides the possibility of carving diamond with diamond. The brightness, very intense, serves as a differential characteristic with respect to imitations. The optical defects are extraordinarily favorable in the diamond; for that reason it is considered the king of the gems.
