White gold consists of the fusion of several metals, that is, it is an alloy. In this case, the main material would be gold and the other metal would provide the white tone we want. For this reason, the most commonly used materials are silver, palladium or nickel. Its use in jewelry is being developed as an alternative to platinum thanks to its reduced cost. On the other hand, white gold has other uses than the one already mentioned in the jewelery sector. Thus, we find white gold in some elements related to computers such as processors, keyboards, graphic cards ... All this is thanks to its capacity for electrical transmission and its hardness. As we have already commented in previous posts, the percentage of gold that an object has is measured in carats. In this way, we know the quality of a particular piece thanks to this measurement scale. Therefore, white gold follows the same concept. We can find 18 carat white gold, that's the way it is in most cases. That being the case, we would obtain an object with 75% pure gold and 25% other material to give it the color. On the other hand, we can find 14 carat white gold. In this case, gold will represent 59% of the total alloy with another material.
